One of my chihuahuas is a puppy mill rescue, she was kept in a cage for years. she has a burn scar over her ear and she used to be extremely anxious, still tenses up completely when being picked up after 9 years of being with us. We had to train her to stop eating her own poop. Puppy mills are abusive in more than just the disregard for the the dogs' reproductive health

Dog breeding should be done for a REASON. Not just for appearance. I went to a breeder for my service dog because i need certain health clearances and temperament. Outside of my service dog, I work with rescuing strays and advocate for spay/neuter, supporting shelters, and the value of rescuing unless you need a dog with a job/a dog for a specific purpose. Any dog outside of my service animals is a rescue, and I refuse any breeder cats as I see no point to breeding cats. Breeding should be done carefully and with consideration to the reasoning and the purpose behind each litter, and done with dogs that are the best of the breed standard OR the specific breeder line you are working for that still maintains the integrity of the breed (IE an acquaintance of mine has a service dog from a program that specifically prefers labradors at the smaller end of the breed standard, while I prefer larger bred labs, done safely - I got a small lab anyways, but thats fine, we'll just have a tandem team eventually and she might retire to therapy dog work a little earlier than I expected LOL. Shes my little love and my soul dog regardless of size.) Any dog can be a GOOD DOG if handled by an owner/handler who understands the breed and the breed traits and that negative traits are genetic just like positive traits are (My lab is easily trainable and affectionate, but also prone to stubbornness and occasionally has a high prey drive off-vest for squirrels and birds). But shit you need to know what youre doing! Its why I wont touch certain dogs as pets unless i have the money for a professional trainer to help me work through the issues of their breed, because I believe in the safety and wellbeing of my dog and everyone else more than I believe in having my 'dream dog'. I dont know. Pisses me off when we breed just for aesthetic and then hand them off to people who dont know or understand the breed they want so badly. Thats how you get your dog or someone else HURT.

I went from being very disgusted and concerned for these puppies to wheeze laughing with tears in my eyes at the Jerma obstacle course edit. Thank you for the mental health whiplash/break in the middle of this horrible mess.

as a European, i am consistently shocked by how little Americans care about animals. the welfare laws are absolutely horrid. besides politicians that don't care, i see many Americans buy from unethical breeders, mutilate their pets, and take pets home when they are too young. America is a shithole for all living beings

Aaaaaaaa!!! Those poor dogs!!! 😣 They look like they have trouble breathing, breeding, and in pain from even STANDING from it's weight and bow-like legs! The cropped ears for aesthetics is also a problem! The only way cropping ears and docking tails on a dog could be considered purposeful would be if it's done on a livestock guard dog so wolves and coyotes won't grab on to their ears or tail.

This should be illegal worldwide.

I defiantly agree that it’s the training that makes the dog, not the breed. Because these dogs attract owners who want a macho dog, they’re often trained to be violent. I was bit by an American Pitbull and I still stand by that fact. The dog was abused and hit by his owners, of course he’d lash out!

I seriously don't understand how some people look at these dogs and go "yeah that's the one" like mf that thing can barely walk on its own??? Some of these breeders may not be puppy mills but they're all definitely backyard breeders. No ethical breeder would treat their dogs like inanimate objects/breed for extreme out of standard features 😟😟

thank you so much for talking about this topic!! literally nobody does despite the fact that breeding cats/dogs is a huge problem. people breed these animals to such an extreme degree that they don't even see them as living beings anymore but objects to profit off of instead. as someone who has rescued a lot of cats, this is a horrible issue and people need to stop buying breed animals.

I've experienced an unethical dog breeder last year when my parents got my second dog and the sad thing is that in the USA there is NO effective way to report them. Reports go unchecked for months or years and even when someone finally gets out there, they usually will just get a fine unless there's actual dead animals visible. ANY breeder producing 6+ litters in the USA is supposed to be federally licensed. All other ones can be considered puppy mills.

I don't think these dogs could be used for fighting. They can barely walk or hold their heads up, they're being heavily inbred for a specific look.

This is one of those things where I wish I had the skills and resources to save at least one of these dogs and give them the best life I can for as little time as they have to live. There’s probably so many of them in shelters after the people who bought them realized they weren’t as healthy as other dogs.

lol my cousin gets paid to make ridiculous bully posters like those. Him and his gf are super into the breed and i avoid any conversation about it if i can because i just get angry instantly. Inbreeding and genetic manipulation taken way too far. It's like they took everything wrong with what spawned modern pugs and said hold my beer

No animal animals are safe sure but people need to be smart and on this topic of these bull dogs the nice dogs like any other dogs just some dogs need more work then others also the factors are the bad stuff like dog fighters and also abusive. Animals are not promber like humans but less complexes. If I am rich I save all animals like these poor things.

I also hate people who run breeding mills. I hate any form of abusing both human and animals. If these things are on Twitter on breeding I hope dogs well train and well treated. I am also my mother and I own a pure breed lab ans she well treated and simi train. But she came from a dog breeder who wasn't in it for getting the best dog at the cost of dogs' health and safety. Also human induce dog fight are scums of humans it's gross in all forms and is a form of animal abuse. I seen dogs getting in to fights but no humans was influsings it. It's animal nature like humans to have conflicts and they are scared when they start doing physical harm. I love animals so hearing this can of stuff makes my blood boil. But there are great animal breeders but I bat are quieter then the "bigger" ones.

Like… these poor dogs can barely do dog things. I could never resign another living being to such a fate, but these people do it like it should be something to be admired or praised. It disgusts me.

The way they treat these animals as an expensive prop is sickening. This is why i will probably be adopting another dog from a shelter after I'm not greaving over my own dog. And i just learned these dogs existed when apparently they've been around since 2008? The exotic bully i mean. The only breeds I've known about was the pit bull, bull dog, french bull dog, bull terrier and thats it.

My uncle had a Pitbull named Bella, and she was the sweetest dog out there. Eventually he had to move up north and couldn't take her so he gave her to me and my grandparents. She did cause some damage to things, but that was because she had a disease that made her all wobbly and more likely to bump into things. Se loved cuddling and if you hugged her she would usually put her head on your shoulder. I won't lie and say that she was a perfect little angel, but she was damn near close. tl;dr if you don't have the money, time, or resources to train a breed that can be aggressive, don't pull a surprised pikachu face when it acts up. and yes I'm saying aggressive, not just big. This goes out to those little rat chihuahuas too.

just as an additional note: virulently anti-pit bull/bully breed discourse is often a dogwhistle (pun intended) for deeply rooted racist beliefs. the emphasis on how blood determines inherently violent nature and how the dogs are “savage beasts” and “super predators” isssss basically the same as how racists talk about black people. and that’s not an accident. pit bulls have been heavily racialized and associated with black people since around the 1980s - prior to that they were merely associated with the working class. if you want my sources on that, look up the episode “dog show!” from NPR’s code switch, there’s even a transcript if you don’t want to listen to the episode. pit bulls, when trained properly, also pose no more danger to a human than any other dog. labrador and golden retrievers and chihuahuas are actually the dogs that case the most bite injuries, and that’s just due to their popularity. pit bulls ARE, however, naturally DOG aggressive, and extra care needs to be taken to make sure your pit bull won’t attack other dogs. they were bred initially to fight other dogs so the dog aggression makes sense, but you can socialize them early. bully breeds are wonderful dogs. my family’s boxer was the kindest, gentlest being in my entire life. the dog loved me more than my parents did. he helped me learn how to walk by letting me hold onto his jowls while i was furniture walking. slept in front of my crib every night the second my parents brought me home. he was still a big dopey lunk, but he loved me (and my little sister) and understood that we were tiny and needed to be protected and treated gently. not all dogs are gonna be like that, obviously, but i think it goes to show that bully breeds are not what popular culture makes them out to be.

Girl you have no fucking clue how deep this rabbit hole goes. I cant sum it up here but you should look into puppy trafficking. Because the pet demand boomed during covid, puppy mills that are like interconnected will breed the hell out of dogs and try to pass them as purebred to up sale. When in reality most the puppies are diseased and/or not the breed as advertised. They get this approval via a fake vet that's usually provided by the mills themselves. I suspect that's what's happening here with th3se bullies because no vet worth their weight in salt would fucking EVER get caught working with these breeders. These instagram accounts might be a work around because previously during the height of the investigations, most these puppies were seen in pet stores; all sourced from the same or similar mills.

I'm not a fan of bully breeds. But the people who hate bully breeds the most are the people who breed them.
